TITLE: CUSTODIAN

SUPERVISOR: Education Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful experience working as a Custodian preferred

REPORTS TO: Education Director and Administrative Assistant

JOB GOAL: To manage, and perform custodian duties, cleaning and grounds keeping tasks to ensure facilities are clean, safe and presentable to the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans all areas as directed. To include but not limited to: sweeping floors; wet and dry mopping; vacuuming carpets; cleaning and sanitizing all bathroom stools and urinals; sanitizing sinks; replacing toilet tissue, toweling and sanitary napkins, and emptying garbage.
  • Maintains grounds (removes snow and ice; keeps sidewalks clean; picks up trash; wash outside windows; repairs playground equipment; mows and irrigates lawns; and maintains shrubs and bushes).
  • Maintaining floors (stripping and re-waxing floors according to school procedure; washing walls and ceilings; painting designated areas; shampooing carpets; and repairing furniture.
  • Responsible for watering, weeding lawns and flower beds.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and observe HCC and Federal policies and procedures.
  • Complete checklists assigned.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities that are legal, moral and ethics as the Director of HCC may assign.

ESSENTIALS

  • Clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively in person, comprehend written instructions, and hear sounds within the normal range of conversation and alarms.
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to view blueprints and work-related manuals; prepare reports as required; to observe facilities and equipment to inspect and determine needed repairs and/or quality of completed work; to operate a motor vehicle and work-related equipment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate all work-associated equipment, operate a vehicle, and work in confined spaces.
  • Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength and reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employees to work in indoor and outdoor conditions, to stand or sit for long periods of time and to perform skilled construction-related tasks.
  • Jobs in this class require performing repetitive motions in fingering/hand/wrist/arm movements and standing for long periods at a time. Job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommodation, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally, walking over uneven ground, roofing or construction sites; working in confined spaces, climbing and standing on ladders, crawling, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching and reaching.

EVALUATION:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the HCC Board policy on Evaluation of Classified staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Hourly At-Will classified position working for 12 months.
