TITLE: Truck Driver - Residential
DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste
PAY GRADE: 10
FLSA: Nonexempt
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties
Performs skilled equipment operator and truck driving tasks.
Supervision Received
Works under close to general supervision of an administrative superior.
Supervision Exercised
May exercise close to general supervision over subordinate employee(s) performing related work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Drives and loads a rear-loading refuse collection truck along a fixed collection route servicing
residential collection containers; ensures that trucks are properly loaded and secured; observes all
state and federal highway laws for safe operation of vehicle; performs operator maintenance on
the vehicle (including washing, cleaning, check tire pressure, etc.); inspects vehicle before,
during and after operation to detect improper operation; reports all pertinent information
regarding the vehicle, containers and compliance to the supervisor; performs related work as
required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions relating to the equipment and
the solid waste industry; skill in operating large trucks with either manual or automatic
transmissions; skill in detecting vehicle and equipment faults and in making correct judgments as
to whether operation can continue without correcting the fault; ability to estimate weight of load
to ensure truck is not overloaded; ability to make operator repairs and adjustments to equipment
(e.g., adjust belts, tighten hoses and nuts, replace light bulbs and lenses, check tire pressure and
replace minor parts); ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to
complete forms and make simple reports accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships; ability to perform strenuous labor tasks under all types of weather
conditions.
Education
High school graduation or equivalent.
Experience
At least one year operating comparable class trucks and in making minor repairs and adjustments
to comparable equipment.
Substitution
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (Class B) and a clean driving record.

include close, color, distance, peripheral and the ability to adjust focus; occasionally required to lift up to
70 pounds

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud; exposed to outdoor weather conditions;
