Position Summary

Responsible for recording, transcription and preservation of all Court proceedings. The Court Reporter is responsible for maintaining evidence, exhibits and providing administrative and managerial duties on behalf of the Court. Extensive computer skills are required as the Court is on an E-filing system.

Position Responsibilities

  • Records and reports all court proceedings;

  • Transcribes record of proceedings when ordered;

  • Maintains exhibits, depositions and log notes of all proceedings of the Court;

  • Maintains permanent exhibit files of all reported cases;

  • Prepares orders, entries, and assigned documents;

  • Prepares correspondence and distributes as required by the Court;

  • Assists with the scheduling and updating of cases on the Court calendar;

  • Answers telephones and responds to questions from court representatives and the general public;

  • Assists with other duties and responsibilities when others are absent.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; college course work, clerical or administrative experience and paralegal training preferred. Familiarity and/or experience with judicial court system preferred. Knowledge and understanding of legal terminology. Experience with computer systems- including Microsoft products, and ability to type at an advanced level (45 wpm minimum) while maintaining accuracy of complex and lengthy materials. Knowledge and use of proper grammar and spelling.

Marion County Residency required within six months of hire.

Salary enhancements for bi-lingual skills and education level are available upon assessment and submission of college transcript, as well as applicable experience.
