Job ID361230 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R2 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Summary of Position: I need to employ a Researcher 2 immediately to continue critical experiments that were initiated by former graduate trainee to understand how the microtubule cytoskeleton becomes disorganized when the protein dystrophin is absent from skeletal muscle of mouse models for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. These experiments were initiated as part of Dr. Ervasti's 25-year funded R01 grant from the NIH (AR042423-25, EFS# 3002-11708-00047565). The specific duties of the position include dissection of single muscle fibers from the mouse extensor digitorum longus muscle, immunostaining of single fibers for alpha-tubulin, imaging single fibers using confocal microscopy, and electronic analysis of microscopy images using the TeDT algorithm. Essential and Other Functions: 75% Confocal microscopy imaging Mouse euthanasia, muscle fixation and fiber dissection, tissue staining, confocal microscopy imaging. 20% Quantitative image analysis The candidate will quantitatively analyze electronic microscopy images using a texture detection algorithm (TeDT). 5% Record keeping and reporting The candidate will document all activities in electronic laboratory notebooks and provide regular written and oral reports of progress to Dr. Ervasti and his laboratory group. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BS in Biochemistry or other biological science major, at least one year of laboratory experience in dissection of mouse skeletal muscles, confocal microscopy and quantitative image analysis, or a combination of related education and experience totaling at least five years. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with quantitative western blot analysis is preferred.
