NOTE REGARDING THE ADVERTISED PAY:

This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or parks building and grounds work will substitute for the required experience. Training will be credited in six month increments.

NOTE:

Custodial building maintenance is not qualifying.

Examples of building construction trades include cabinetmaker, carpenter, concrete finisher, electrician, HVAC controls technician, HVAC mechanic, ironworker, millwright, painter, pipefitter, plasterer, plumber, refrigeration mechanic, roofer, sheet metal worker, steamfitter, tile setter and welder.

Examples of building maintenance include Maintenance Repairer 1/2, B/G/E Maintenance Repairer 1/2 and Maintenance Repair Foreman.

Examples of repair/maintenance of mechanical equipment include Operating Engineer 1/2, auto mechanic, Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, Mobile Equipment Overhaul Mechanic and Mobile Equipment Master Mechanic.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To make minor repairs to buildings, facilities, grounds, navigational locks, and light equipment/appliances or to perform general maintenance on marine vessels and all related facilities.

Level of Work:

Entry.

Supervision Received:

Close from a Maintenance Foreman, supervisor, or administrator of higher level.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Location of Work:

All state agencies.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from laborer, grounds maintenance, and custodial jobs by performance of a wide range of basic maintenance and repair responsibilities.

Differs from other maintenance jobs by limitation to basic or minor repairs to buildings, facilities, light equipment, or marine vessels.

Examples of Work

  • Inspects all facilities, grounds, equipment, piers, etc to determine the need for various types of maintenance or repairs.

  • Makes general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, air conditioning and heating systems, and other items as needed.

  • Performs routine maintenance such as changing air filters, replacing light bulbs, cleaning and servicing heating, ventilation and air conditioning compressor units and etc.

  • Surveys jobs and ensures that sufficient and proper materials, tools, and supplies are on hand to complete assigned tasks.

  • Services refrigerators, stoves, water dispensers, rugs, flags, etc. Addresses any related issues with the appropriate vendor or makes minor repairs as appropriate.

  • Assists with deliveries.

  • Ensures that all facilities are cleaned regularly and properly.

  • Keeps supply room neat, organized, and stocked.

  • Performs other facilities maintenance tasks as assigned by the Facility Maintenance Manager.

  • may be required to report and remain on duty until released by the Facility Maintenance Manager during emergency events or disasters.

  • With guidance from Maintenance Repairer Master or above, the incumbent will be required to complete electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs

  • Performs landscaping and grass-cutting activities at all facilities as needed.

  • Picks up debris and tree limbs throughout the 5 miles of park along Lakeshore Drive and the associated subdivisions.

  • Repairs and rebuilds park benches and tables along the 5-mile stretch of Lakeshore Drive.

  • Inspecsts the Shelters along Lakeshore Drive. Informs Facility Maintenance Manager of major issues and repairs needed.
