Cecil College Studio Art Manager in North East, Maryland

With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will assist with managing and maintaining the ceramics studio and art studios including materials and studio equipment. The candidate will oversee daily ceramics studio operations and administrative tasks. The candidate will supervise and train the Studio Art Assistants and work with the Gallery Assistant/Coordinator under the direction of the Art and Design Coordinator and the Art and Design faculty to maintain the art studios, equipment, and exhibition spaces. The candidate will work in a team environment with the Arts and Communications faculty and staff to support various arts events. Responsibilities include organizing, cleaning, making ceramic studio materials, recycling clay, loading/firing kilns, helping students with art projects, requisitioning supplies, maintaining studio equipment, updating inventory, and maintaining documents and files. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Manage the ceramics studio and art studios including materials and studio equipment and inventory • Maintain and manage program storage spaces • Assist with the development of studio policies and procedures and maintain SDS binders • Organize and clean the ceramic studio and art studios • Train and supervise studio staff • Recycle clay, load kilns, fire kilns, mix glazes and slips • Manage inventory of materials • Order clay and supplies as needed • Organize and maintain documents and files • Assist students with art projects • Work with art faculty and prepare studios as needed for classes • Monitor studio during open studio OTHER RELATED DUTIES: • Assist with installation of art exhibits under the direction of the Gallery Assistant/Coordinator and art faculty • Assist with maintenance of exhibition spaces under the direction of the Gallery Assistant/Coordinator and art faculty • Support various Art and Design events and workshops • Perform specific tasks as assigned by supervisor REQUIREMENTS: Education BFA or BA in Ceramics preferred ] Experience Experience working in and managing art studios is required. Experience with various art media and techniques including ceramics, drawing, and painting and digital media. Skills Strong office and office technology skills; experience with Excel is a must; social media and advertising skills; strong communication and writing skills; strong organizational and time management skills. Accuracy in performing assigned duties/ability to meet deadlines, detail, and team oriented, yet able to work alone when necessary. Must be able to handle large equipment and heavy materials such as clay, glazes, artwork, pedestals, and sculpture. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
