Job Summary

Battelle’s Chemical Demilitarization Plant Operations (CDPO) Product Line, which provides world class support to government organizations engaged in chemical defense, chemical demilitarization, and treaty compliance services, is seeking an Environmental Compliance Representative in the Pueblo, Colorado area for full-time, rotating shift work. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package will be provided.

The selected candidate will work at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) project located on the U.S. Army’s Pueblo Chemical Depot.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting environmental compliance surveillances and inspections

  • Providing environmental compliance technical support to plant construction and operations organizations

  • Coordinating compliance issues with project staff and managers

  • Preparing project compliance reports

  • Assisting the preparation and/or technical review of environmental compliance and operational procedures

  • Providing technical assistance and support to the PCAPP Emergency Response program

  • Entering into plant areas where toxic chemicals and hazardous wastes may be stored.

  • Supporting and maintaining the project’s computer-based compliance database

  • Supporting safe and compliant hazardous waste management operations as needed.

  • Assisting the inspection of off-site treatment, storage and disposal Facilities to ensure compliant destruction and/or disposal of PCAPP wastes, as required

  • Other duties, as assigned

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, engineering or other related field with two (2) years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting or other related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Ability to, interpret and implement environmental and hazardous waste regulations

  • Ability to prepare accurate and concise reports.

  • Working knowledge of hazardous waste and hazardous material management and general industrial safety requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • This position is designated as a Chemical Duty Position and is subject to the requirements of the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, urinalysis testing, medical exam and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by Army Regulations.

  • Successfully pass a medical screen demonstrating the ability to wear a respirator and personal protective equipment and lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to conduct entries into chemical agent areas in support of environmental compliance or shift requirements. Successfully complete and pass initial and follow-up governmental security investigations, proof of citizenship, credit checks, criminal record checks, drug screening or other background investigations.

  • Work effectively as a member of a team

  • Work a fixed or rotating eight, ten or twelve-hour shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Interact and communicate effectively with plant construction and operations staff and government oversight staff

  • Support the establishment of a strong project safety culture and safe work environment through strict adherence to all project safety requirements.
