The school janitor performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of the schools buildings, office, gymnasium and cafeteria. This position assists in providing a safe, clean learning environment for students and faculty staff. The work involves the full range of janitorial services. Major duties and responsibilities include: Sweeps, mops, steam cleans, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets and rugs; cleans and dusts furniture, woodwork, etc.; washes walls and partitions, venetian blinds and windows; washes and cleans ceiling vents and fixtures; cleans mirrors and water fountains; and performs other related custodial work. Makes note of condition of facilities, and reports to the Principal those items needing specialized maintenance and repairs such as broken windows, damaged electrical outlets, frayed cords, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance. Maintains, adjusts, cleans, and oils machinery and equipment used. Changes or replaces brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments as needed. Empties trash cans and relines cans with liners. Collects and disposes of trash including the transport of trash to proper disposal areas. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies, cleans spills, cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc. Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as necessary.
