Architect of the Capitol Elevator Mechanic (Electronics) Worker in Washington DC, District Of Columbia

Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, House Office Buildings, Facilities Operations Division, Elevator Branch. The selectee assists with a variety of electronic functions in connection with the inspection, maintenance and repair of elevators, lifts, escalators and various industrial equipment in the House office Buildings. Responsibilities Tour of Duty: Day shift under 5am -1:30pm Position may also be used to fill evening shift 1pm -9:30pm or night shift from Sunday to Thursday 9:30pm to 6am. This position is emergency essential. Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. The individual selected for this position performs developmental assignments under closer than normal supervision and assignments become progressively more difficult until the full performance level is reached. The duties listed is at the WG-8 level. incumbent learns and performs more complex duties on a gradual basis, including the proper usage of tools and equipment of the trade; the order of assembling parts and what tools and equipment are needed; how to read blueprints, sketches and technical manuals to understand the functions of the parts or systems, to plan and lay out work and to aid in finding faulty parts or systems; repair techniques to be used including methods used in getting the right fits or tolerances; how to make adjustments and calibrations; and how to rebuild and/or make parts. Assists with elevator maintenance and repair. Performs elevator repair and maintenance in accordance with instructions. Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures. Must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Performs other related duties as assigned. The position may be filled at the Helper level (WG-5) or Worker level (WG-8). If hired at the Helper level (WG-5), the selectee will perform progressively more difficult tasks to develop skills leading to promotion to the Worker level (WG-08).
